Interactive PDF Competition

We said at the last meeting that we would run this competition to create an interactive PDF in InDesign, the wizzier the better, then email it to us at auckland@indesignusergroup.com by Friday October 14. We will get resident ACE Paul Cracknell to judge for us and announce the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners at this meeting, but you must be there to qualify.

Mac OSX Lion compatibility with Adobe Creative Suite
Adobe has done a lot of testing with Adobe Creative Suite and Mac OSX Lion. For the most part Creative Suite 5 and 5.5 are compatible with Apple’s new Operating System. The Adobe Reader plug-in for Safari is not compatible with the version of Safari that comes with Mac OSX Lion, also there are some issues with Flash Catalyst but overall no real show stoppers.
Adobe has found some issues with Creative Suite 3 and 4 and these are being documented at the moment. In our own internal testing we haven’t found anything that would stop you using these versions of Creative Suite with Mac OSX Lion.
Creative Suite 2 and earlier requires the use of Rosetta as it was made for PowerPC Macs. Rosetta is not a part of Mac OSX Lion so these versions of Creative Suite will not work. Any plugins that require the use of Rosetta will also not work.

Documents created with InDesign CS 5.5 and down-saving
Adobe have released Creative Suite 5.5, the mid cycle release that is focused on delivering Digital Publishing solutions.
InDesign Documents created with the new InDesign CS5.5 are not compatible with earlier versions of InDesign, this includes InDesign CS5. If you try and open an InDesign CS5.5 Document with InDesign CS5 you will get the error ‘Cannot open “filename.indd”. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign.’.
You can however Export the InDesign CS5.5 Document to the InDesign Markup (IDML) format that InDesign CS5 and InDesign CS4 will be able to open. From the ‘File’ menu in InDesign CS5.5 go down to ‘Export…’ then from the pull-down menu select ‘InDesign Markup (IDML)’ and Save your file. The exported file will have the .idml file extension that you can open in InDesign CS5 or CS4. If you have used any InDesign CS5.5 specific features in your document they are unlikely to translate to any earlier version.

Multi-Find/Change for Adobe InDesign
Multi-Find/Change from Automatication is a scripted plug-in for managing and running Find/Change queries using InDesign or InCopy.
Available for CS4 and CS5 Multi-Find/Change organises multiple Find/Change queries into saved sets so they can be easily run when needed with a click of a button. Sets can be easily shared with other Multi-Find/Change users.
The Find/Change command is a powerful tool for cleaning up and formatting tech within your InDesign Document. Useful for removing or replacing double spaces, double tabs, changing multiple returns to a single return and correctly formatting text within your document.
