MYOB updates should be making their way around to you all by now ( users don’t have to do anything – it is ready now) and the new GST tax code seems to be S15. When you let us know that you have finished your September invoicing and we switch your Spark over to the new rate, be aware that we will also be pointing Spark at your S15 code for GST. If you haven’t updated your MYOB and are going to update the codes and reports yourself, please make sure you create your 15% GST code as S15.

Computer Recycling and e-Waste disposal

We’ve recently found and used a free computer disposal service. Computer Recycling Ltd is located in Penrose, they have an easy drive-in and drop-off service. Simply drive in and place the equipment into the bins as instructed and that’s it. They do ask that small items are placed into bags or boxes.

We recently had a spring clean in the office and found half a dozen old machines that were long past being useful to anyone. The old equipment needed to be cleared out but we didn’t want to send them off to become landfill, so we were quite happy to find this service. We destroyed all data on hard drives before dropping them off but Computer Recycling will destroy all hard drive content that they receive.

Computer Recycling Ltd is located at;
95 Gavin Street, Penrose, Auckland.

Drop-off times are ;
9am – 5pm Weekdays
10am – 4pm Saturdays

Apple Mail
Apple Mail doesn’t have a built-in method of setting an Out of Office message, using a rule within Apple Mail can cause a loop of never ending emails as it replies to all messages (including auto responders). The good news is that it can be set using the Kerio Connect webmail.

Everyone can use webmail to set the Out of Office message, handy if you are away from your computer when you want to set it.

To set the away message, log into your webmail. Note: we setup our clients webmail address in the format ‘’ (where is your companies actual domain name). Once logged in you can set the Out of Office message by going to the ‘Settings’ menu and selecting ‘Out of office’. Tick the ‘I am out of office now’ option and enter your message, then click ‘OK’.

In Outlook
The Out of office message can be set by using the ‘Out Of Office’ button in the Kerio toolbar within Outlook. If you do not have the Kerio toolbar active you can also set the Out of Office message can be set by going to the ‘Tools’ menu and selecting ‘Options’, then click on the ‘Kerio Connect’ tab, then click on the ‘Out of Office…’ button. Tick the ‘I’m out of office’ option and enter your message, then click ‘OK’.

In Entourage 2008
The Out of Office message can be set by going to the ‘Tools’ menu and selecting ‘Out of Office’. Tick the ‘Send Out of Office messages’ option and enter your message, then click ‘OK’.

Spark, GST Codes and your Accounting

The GST change is coming up soon. Your accounting application provider (MYOB, Moneyworks, Xero etc) will have updates and/or advice on how their product will be affected by the GST change. We are following their recommendations on what the new GST code will be.

For example, MYOB uses the code S as the 12.5% GST code. We have unconfirmed reports that the new code will be S15. If this is the case, then Spark will be outputting S15 as the official GST code in its transfer files. (To be confirmed)

MYOB say their latest update takes care of the GST changeover. If you don’t do the upgrade, you MUST create codes and alter the behavior of your MYOB to work with the 15% change.

If you have any questions about the GST change in relation to Spark, please give Gemma or Marcus a call on (09) 477 0396.
